Kettering University NVHEM Lab Partners with NVH Consulting LLC for Advanced NVH Engineering Innovation

Flint, MI – May 29, 2025 – Kettering University’s Noise, Vibration, Harshness, and Experimental Mechanics (NVHEM) Laboratory, under the leadership of Dr. Javad Baqersad, has formed a strategic partnership with NVH Consulting LLC, led by Johann Pankau. This collaboration aims to enhance research and development in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) engineering, focusing on cutting-edge solutions for automotive and industrial applications.

During Johann Pankau’s recent visit to Kettering University, Dr. Baqersad provided a comprehensive tour of the NVHEM Lab. The tour highlighted the lab’s state-of-the-art equipment and ongoing NVH research projects. Student presentations showcased Kettering University’s expertise in NVH engineering, including access to advanced tools such as:

  • Polytec 3D scanning vibrometer for precise vibration analysis
  • Two pairs of Photron high-speed cameras for dynamic imaging
  • VIC-3D vibration module for 3D vibration measurement
  • MicroStrain wireless data acquisition system for real-time data collection
  • Anechoic Chamber for accurate noise testing
  • Data acquisition systems from Head Acoustics and Siemens for comprehensive NVH evaluation
  • Advanced NVH software packages and finite element method (FEM) tools
  • Chassis NVH dynamometer chambers for vehicle testing

Inspired by the NVHEM Lab’s capabilities, NVH Consulting LLC and Kettering University have committed to a collaborative agreement. NVH Consulting LLC will contribute industry expertise to support Kettering’s NVH projects, particularly in areas like tire NVH, ride comfort optimization, and brake system noise reduction. In exchange, the NVHEM Lab will provide NVH Consulting LLC with access to its world-class facilities, expert faculty, and student talent for joint NVH engineering initiatives.

“This partnership represents a significant advancement in NVH engineering,” stated Dr. Javad Baqersad of Kettering University. “By integrating academic research with practical industry knowledge, we can accelerate innovation in noise, vibration, and harshness solutions, benefiting sectors like automotive NVH and beyond.”

Johann Pankau from NVH Consulting LLC echoed the sentiment: “Kettering University’s NVHEM Lab offers unparalleled technology and a skilled team, making it the perfect collaborator for our NVH consulting services. We’re excited to work together on projects that improve NVH performance, ride comfort, and overall vehicle dynamics.”
