Laser Vibrometry — Optomet Sales & Service
Non-contact vibration measurement powered by Optomet SWIR laser vibrometers — sales, service, training, and application support in the U.S.
See the Vibration You Can’t Touch
Optomet laser Doppler vibrometers bring non-contact, high-precision vibration measurement to your toughest test challenges — now available in the United States through NVH Consulting LLC, backed by 36+ years of hands-on NVH application expertise.
NVH Consulting LLC is proud to represent Optomet laser Doppler vibrometers (LDV) in the United States — combining Optomet’s industry-leading SWIR laser measurement technology with the application know-how to put it to work in your lab or on your test bench.
A laser Doppler vibrometer measures vibration without ever touching the surface. No accelerometers to mount, no mass loading, no surface preparation — just a laser beam and precise, repeatable velocity, displacement, and acceleration data on virtually any structure, from a tiny MEMS device to an entire bridge.
As an Authorized Optomet Sales & Service Partner — United States, we don’t just deliver the instrument. We help you select the right system, get it running, train your team, and interpret the results — so your investment delivers value from day one.
Why Optomet?
- SWIR laser technology (1550 nm). An invisible short-wave infrared laser with up to ten times the power of traditional HeNe systems — while remaining eye-safe (Laser Class 1).
- Measure on any surface. Dark, rough, hot, curved, or poorly reflecting materials — including carbon composites, glowing metal, and biological tissue — with no reflective tape or surface prep.
- Exceptional signal quality. Roughly 20 dB higher signal level than conventional vibrometers, for a superior signal-to-noise ratio and wide dynamic range.
- Fully digital processing. High sampling rates for frequencies into the MHz range and vibration velocities up to 25 m/s.
- Modular and upgradeable. Start with a base system and add decoders or capabilities as your needs grow.
- Long working distances. From a few millimeters out to 300 m for structural and outdoor measurements.
Product Lineup
Single-Point Laser Vibrometers (SMART & CLASSIC / Nova Series)
The workhorse of non-contact vibration measurement. Optomet’s single-point vibrometers focus a SWIR laser on one target point to capture velocity, displacement, and acceleration with outstanding sensitivity — even on challenging surfaces. The robust CLASSIC Nova series suits established lab and industrial tasks, while the Nova-Xtra extends measurement to distances of up to 300 m for civil engineering, aerospace, and large-facility inspection. Ideal when every decibel of signal counts.
Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer (SLDV)
Full-field vibration imaging. Rather than a single point, the scanning vibrometer sweeps a grid of measurement points across your test object and animates its dynamic behavior — revealing operating deflection shapes, identifying resonances, validating finite-element models, and visualizing wave propagation. Optomet pioneered the world’s first SWIR-based scanning vibrometer, and its large optical aperture captures maximum reflected light for sensitivity even on difficult surfaces. Driven by the intuitive OptoSCAN software, it’s a turn-key visualization system that also runs as a single-point instrument via OptoGUI.
Fiber Series Vibrometers
Reach where free-beam systems can’t. The Fiber series pairs Optomet’s SWIR performance with compact, fiber-coupled measurement heads connected by glass fibers — separate fibers for the outgoing and returning beams preserve signal quality. Perfect for confined spaces, integration into test rigs, and measurement points that are hard to access with a full free-beam vibrometer.
Every system carries a velocity decoder as standard, with displacement and acceleration decoders available — and decoders can be retrofitted or upgraded as requirements change.
Application Areas
Optomet laser vibrometers serve a wide range of industries and research fields. Wherever precise, non-contact vibration data matters, they deliver:
- Aerospace — turbine blades, composite panels, and structural components, including measurements on glowing or non-cooperative surfaces.
- Automotive — full-vehicle and component NVH development, powertrain, and structural dynamics.
- Brake Noise — capture squeal, groan, and instability without adding mass to the brake system.
- Tire Vibration & Noise — non-contact measurement of tire dynamics and rolling noise mechanisms.
- Civil Engineering — bridges, buildings, and large structures, with long-distance measurement up to 300 m.
- Electronics — MEMS, sensors, ultrasonic devices, and micro-scale components at high frequencies.
- Material Research — damping behavior, modal analysis, and characterization of advanced materials and composites.
- Medical Technology — measurement on delicate and biological surfaces, where non-contact and eye-safety matter.
